When it came time to do this ‘About Me’ page, I had to stop and think what I wanted to say about myself, which meant I had to answer the main question everyone would want to know; Who Am I?
Well… I’m a beautiful black woman, a believer of Christ who was born and raised in Las Vegas, NV (yes, there’s more than casinos in Vegas). I’m a mother to one, a daughter to four, a sister to four, an aunt to five, a niece to several, a cousin of plenty, and a friend to many. I’m a published author, a student in college, small business owner as well as a member of Toastmasters Int’l. I’m also involved in several mentoring programs, one at my church for middle school girls called D.I.G.S (Developing, Independence, Godliness, and Success), and the other is through UNLV at a local elementary school working with ‘at risk’ girls.
That’s who I am now, but I’ve been many people in my short amount of time on earth. I’ve been a girlfriend, a fiancé, the rejector and the rejected. I’ve been a banker, a paralegal, an office coordinator, an Americorps volunteer, a teacher (a substitute that is), and the mentee.
Looking back on these answers, I had to ask myself more importantly, Who Will I Be? I will finish school to be a therapist, I’ll continue to teach and mentor children, I’ll be a faithful servant of Christ, a successful business owner, a mother of a published writer (her choice not mine), and not just a girlfriend or fiancé this time, but a wife. I will also be happy and content with who I am, and who I’ve been.
Despite what may or may not happen because it’s really up to God. I will always be a writer, and a thought-provoking person. That’s why I decided to create this website, to have somewhere to store these thoughts. Writing is my passion. It allows my thoughts that are constantly racing through my mind to be recorded for later.
I have been writing since I could. I loved writing short stories in school, and I actually won many young writer awards for it. That’s when I figured out that I must be pretty good at this ‘writing thing’. Back then I wrote raps (yes, I thought I was MC Lyte or somebody), short stories, songs, and poetry. Over the years I’ve focused my writing mainly on poetry, novel writing and journaling.
